Howard Evans Roofing and Cladding recently completed various works at the Crowne Plaza at Bridgefoot in Stratford-upon-Avon, following a fire that caused significant damage to the plant room area.
On 27th April, more than 100 guests were evacuated from the hotel, with fire officers using specialist equipment to ventilate each floor due to heavy smoke throughout. The hotel remained closed until September 2024 to allow rebuilding and refurbishment works to be completed.
Our team worked closely with the loss adjusters and the hotel owners to rebuild the damaged plant room. We carried out emergency remedial works, and once given clearance to access the affected areas, we commenced repairs.
The area was cleared, including all damaged pipework and cables, with as many materials recycled as possible. Waste was removed using a tower crane hired specifically for the project, and the SPV Hiab lorry made regular visits to lift materials and dispose of rubbish.
A new structural frame and decking were installed for the plant room, with crash deck scaffolding set up to provide access to complete the work. Since the affected area was above the ballroom, an over-roof was put in place to protect the ballroom below during the internal refurbishment.
Once the structural work was complete, joists were reinstalled, followed by new posi joists and boarding. A 3-layer high performance Danosa roofing felt system was then supplied and fitted, including a vapour barrier, insulation, and all required details and flashings.
We worked closely with the fire brigade, hotel management, and other contractors on-site to coordinate the works and ensure they were completed efficiently, given the urgency for the hotel to reopen.
The works were completed within the agreed time scales, in line with loss adjuster budgets, and were covered by a materials and workmanship guarantee.
