SPV Special Projects have recently completed the over cladding works at Fortec Distribution centre, 2-3 Watling Park, Daventry.
Working through Jones Lang Lasalle on behalf of the client Fortec, the works were undertaken under a JCT contract with a scheduled programme of 8 months. Fortec aims to lead the way in UK pallet distribution.
They are a leading UK pallet network delivering across the UK and Europe with further access to global services. They specialise in distributing time critical palletised goods through their experienced, nationwide network of members. Their reputation is built on offering customers top-quality, tailored services they can rely on.
As would be expected, communication and prior planning were key to the successful delivery of this project. Work activities within the building had to be coordinated efficiently to allow for the external works to commence. The SPV foreman worked closely with the site to update on work activities and planning to ensure minimal disruption was caused to the warehouse which was always extremely busy.
Our remit involved the complete overclad of the existing asbestos roof using a new grid system, Knauf 160mm insulation and Coverworld Plastisol sheets. We installed sacrificial netting to the inside of the building for protection and scaffolding to the perimeter for edge protection.
The sprinkler system was removed, and the inside purlins were also strengthened as part of the project to take the extra weight of the new sheets. All works are covered by a 25-year materials and labour guarantee.
We had 2 apprentices on site throughout the work who gained valuable experience and one apprentice undertook his end point assessment on site resulting in him being awarded his trailblazer qualification in sheeting and cladding – the first person in the UK to achieve this new qualification.
The works were completed 4 weeks early and all as per agreed budgets to the satisfaction of the client:
“Thank you to all parties involved in your assistance with this project working alongside each other to minimise disruption where possible, to both Fortec’s operations and SPV undertaking the works. “
