SPV Special Projects Ltd carried out the roofing refurbishment works to the main pitched roof at Willis House through NG Bailey on behalf of the Client WTW.

We stripped off all existing slates, batten and felt to the roof, removed all rubbish and checked existing rafters for any defects.

We then supplied and installed new breather membrane to the rafters, with 50x25mm battens to meet BS 5534, placed
at appropriate centres for the new Redland Cambrian slates which were supplied and fixed to the new battens in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.

All associated Verge, Mitred Hip, Ridge and Eaves details were installed to match the system and in all valley locations we supplied and installed new Code 5 lead valleys, complete with patination oil.

We also completed the works to the existing felt roof. We stripped off the existing single-ply roof and insulation to expose the metal decking underneath and removed all waste.

The existing handrail was dismantled and set aside for re-use, then reinstalled on completion to match the existing layout. The existing upstand details were raised where required using treated timber.

The existing metal decking was then primed and we supplied and laid an aluminium-lined vapour control layer to the field area and upstands along with 130mm thick PIR insulation to achieve a 0.18 U-value followed by a torch-applied 2-layer felt system comprising underlay and mineral cap sheet to complete.

Matching material upstand details were formed to the perimeter details and penetrations to seal the system.

The works were slightly delayed due to an issue with bats on site. A roost was found the there were bats present and also young so we ensured we followed all procedures and requirements to protect the bats and avoid any disturbance of their roost.

We had an apprentice on site throughout the contract duration of 9 months.

Upon completion, a 25-year manufacturer and workmanship guarantee was provided.

All works were completed within agreed time scales despite adverse weather conditions at times and all agreed budgets to the full satisfaction of the Client.
