SPV Special Projects have recently completed the works at the West
Cumberland Hospital. The works were undertaken through CCL solutions on behalf of the NHS.

Our remit was the refurbishment of Roofs F, G and M across the whole hospital. Our work involved the supply and erection of a design scaffold for safe access to the works. We then supplied and laid a high-performance proteus roofing system comprising of a Vapour barrier, underlay and Cap sheet, alongside tapered insulation to some areas
and flat board insulation to others.

Before the works could start on F block, our team went into the physio ward at night to make frames under the 12 skylights and then plywood them from underneath. This stopped anything from falling onto the ward when we removed them from above. We also arranged for our crane lorry to visit out of hours in the evening to crane materials up by
the main entrance for the chapel and lift motor room roofs at night after visiting time was over to ensure no disruption to patients and visitors.

It was somewhat of a challenge with reduced light. The roof beside the mortuary was particularly challenging as we had to remove 680 No 2 x 2 paving slabs before we could felt the roof.

We had several apprentices on-site throughout the project who all gained valuable insight into a large scale waterproofing project.

The works were completed between September 2022 and March 2023. Throughout our time on site, we faced challenges with adverse weather
conditions, from high winds to heavy rain to snow, all creating issues and challenges with the waterproofing installation.

Despite these challenges and the issue of ensuring the hospital was unaffected by the project. All works were completed within agreed budgets and ahead of schedule.
