Howard Evans Roofing and Cladding have recently completed the roofing works at The Hilton Hotel, Milton Street, Nottingham.

The 1900s building is next to Victoria Centre, within a five-minute walk of attractions like Theatre Royal, Nottingham Trent University, and Old Market Square. Nottingham Castle and Motorpoint Arena are within a mile.

The project was through R Brown Associates for Hilton Hotels. Due to the city centre location, access was extremely limited on-site, which led to the erection of the scaffold becoming very challenging.

We designed and built a full-design scaffold along with counterbalanced scaffolding on the roof.

This ensured continual access to the Hotel front entrance and Restaurant throughout the works and formed a loading bay with a scaffold and goods hoist to lift and lower materials to and from
the roof.

The scaffold was also propped in the cellar to allow us to build the scaffolding above and gain access to the roof. As the access to the site was limited, all deliveries were taken to the site on a just-in-time basis as there was very little storage on-site to accommodate materials.

Preparation was key to this project, with the existing felt removed to expose the asphalt surface.

The felt had been in situ for some time, making it very challenging to remove, requiring extensive manpower. We then flattened blisters and cracks in preparation for the new felt system.

We then supplied and laid a Proteus high performance roofing felt system along with 130mm PIR insulation to the area over the bedroom blocks to a 500m2 area. A black GRP trim was supplied and installed to permitter details where required to complete the detail.

New lead flashings were chased into the brickwork to terminate the felt upstand detail and then treated with a patination oil. All gutters were also cleaned and left free-flowing and bird netting was also re-instated after scaffold removal.

We had several apprentices on-site throughout the works and one completed his endpoint site assessment on-site, thus achieving his NVQ level 2 qualification.

All works were completed within agreed time scales and in-line with agreed budgets.
